Understanding Trauma

Could Your Past Be Affecting Your Energy More Than You Realise?

I'm really glad you've found your way here.

If you've been living with exhaustion for some time, perhaps you've explored your sleep, diet, hormones, gut health, pacing or nervous system.

Perhaps some things have helped. Perhaps nothing seems to last.

And perhaps you're beginning to wonder whether experiences from your past could somehow be connected.

Or maybe you've never considered that possibility before.

This isn't about looking for problems where there aren't any.

It's simply an opportunity to gently explore whether unresolved experiences may still be affecting your energy today.

Before We Go Any Further...

You don't need to know whether what you've experienced "counts" as trauma.

And you don't need to decide whether any of this applies to you.

For now, curiosity is enough.

Why Might Past Experiences Affect Our Energy?

When we experience something overwhelming, our mind and body do an extraordinary job of helping us survive.

Most of the time, our natural recovery processes happen without us ever noticing.

Sometimes, though, an experience is simply too much to process in the moment. Rather than disappearing, it can quietly continue asking something of us.

Our nervous system may continue trying to protect us — influencing the way we experience stress, emotional reactions, sleep and, for many people, energy.

You don't need to believe that's what's happening for you.

It's simply another possibility to explore.

It Makes Sense That You're Cautious

Many people feel nervous about exploring the past.

Perhaps you've thought:

  • "What if it makes me feel worse?"
  • "I don't want to open a can of worms."
  • "It wasn't really that bad."
  • "I feel silly even talking about this."
  • "Other people have been through much worse."
  • "I'm worried I'll end up exhausted afterwards."

When you're living with chronic fatigue, it makes sense to be cautious about anything that might ask more of your energy.

We'll come back to how we keep this safe in a moment.

There Isn't Just One Type Of Experience

Sometimes people arrive with one clear event they'd like to explore.

Sometimes they don't.

Experiences might include:

Things that happened
Bereavement · bullying · accidents · medical procedures · difficult childhood experiences

Things that are still happening
Difficult relationships · caring responsibilities · situations you feel unable to change

Things you notice today
Persistent worry · anger or resentment · emotional reactions or physical responses that seem difficult to explain

Sometimes we know exactly where to begin.

Sometimes we discover it together.

How We Keep This Safe

One of the biggest misconceptions about trauma work is that you have to tell someone everything that happened.

You don't.

You remain in control throughout the whole process.

You decide what feels comfortable to share.

You choose the pace.

If you need a pause, we pause.

If you need to stop, we stop.

Your energy is part of the process.

We work with it, not against it.

Some people talk openly. Others prefer to process things quietly in their own mind. Both approaches can work.

My role isn't to analyse you or tell you what your experiences mean.

It's to create a calm, structured space where your own mind has the opportunity to finish processing what it couldn't fully process at the time.

Where Would It Feel Good To Begin?
